Deni Avdija keeps making the Wizards regret trading him just before his breakout
"When Deni Avdija was drafted No. 9 overall by the Washington Wizards in the 2020 NBA Draft, it was clear that patience would be required. As a raw prospect coming over from Israel at 19, the forward was viewed as a high upside prospect with plenty to be desire but with a lot of work to do. Through his first four seasons in the DMV, the wing showed flashes of the reason Washington should remain patient in his development,"
"Opting to trade Deni Avdija to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Malcolm Brogdon and draft capital that eventually landed them Bub Carrington, Washington would quickly be forced to deal with the fact that yet another questionable decision would come back to haunt them. To start his tenure in Portland, Avdija had a bit of an up and down start. Coming off the bench for most of his first season, the Wizards had yet to realize just how bad of a decision they made."
Deni Avdija was selected ninth overall by the Washington Wizards in 2020 as a raw, high-upside 19-year-old from Israel who required patience and development. Through four seasons he showed flashes but Washington traded him to the Portland Trail Blazers for Malcolm Brogdon and draft capital that became Bub Carrington. Avdija began in Portland with inconsistent minutes and bench roles, then produced a down-the-stretch breakout last season and carried confidence into the offseason. He now ranks among Portland's top players and young NBA prospects, averaging 24.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists, shooting 46.9% overall and 37.4% from three.
