"The former first-round pick finally got the change of scenery he was seeking when the offseason began, and it couldn't have been to a better situation. As a Maryland native, playing for his hometown team was a dream come true. Not only does Whitmore get the chance to suit up close to home with his family near, but he gets to represent the city and the DMV on his chest; the place that helped shape him into the player he is today."
"Outside of the immaturity he showed with the lack of playing time he was offered, the biggest gripe about Whitmore's game was his lack of playmaking ability. There's no doubt the athletic forward has the downhill ability to get to the basket at will and his jumper has slowly but surely improved since making the leap to the NBA. However, his biggest weakness as a passer is what many felt like would be the lone thing that could hinder his development."
Cam Whitmore moved from the Houston Rockets to the Washington Wizards and will play for his hometown team near family. The Villanova product showed scoring flashes and improved shooting but struggled with decision-making and tunnel-vision attacks to the rim. Immaturity around limited playing time and inconsistent playmaking contributed to Houston's decision to move on. The Wizards present a fresh environment of young prospects and an opportunity for Whitmore to develop his passing and maturity without needing to force plays. Improvement in playmaking and decision-making will determine whether Whitmore can translate athletic scoring ability into a reliable NBA contributor. He enters the season with questions to answer.
