Mobile gaming giant Scopely announced its acquisition of Niantic, the maker of Pokémon Go, for $3.5 billion. This deal will allow Scopely to inherit hit titles, including Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now, and more than 2,300 employees will join its team. Niantic will focus on developing real-world 3D maps under a new entity called Niantic Spatial. Despite some recent successes, Niantic has struggled to replicate the massive success of Pokémon Go and has faced challenges due to rising paid content complaints and pandemic-related project cancellations.
