Scopely is set to acquire Niantic's video game division, including popular titles such as Pokemon Go, for $3.5 billion. Niantic's studio leader Ed Wu emphasized the commitment to enhancing Pokemon Go by improving community engagement and live events. The acquisition aims to retain the current team and prioritize existing community programs. This move reflects Saudi Arabia's expanding investments in the video gaming sector, following previous acquisitions of stakes in major companies. Niantic will transition to a new venture called Niantic Spatial.
Niantic studio leader Ed Wu expressed confidence in the acquisition, stating, "With Scopely's full commitment, experience, and resources, we're going to make Pokemon Go the very best it can be."
Wu emphasized the continued focus on community, noting, "We have invested to empower thousands of community leaders... and Scopely is in full agreement that this highly-admired program will be a priority to invest in together."
