In 2006, Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge, a couple from New York City, unexpectedly became entrepreneurs after purchasing Beekman Farm in Sharon Springs. Their initial goal was simply a weekend retreat, but after being asked to care for 80 goats, they were inspired to start making goat milk products. However, the 2008 recession hit hard, causing both to lose their jobs. They searched for a way to make ends meet, leading them to create Beekman 1802, focused on goat milk skincare, just to survive financially.
In 2006, we were city dwellers who stumbled upon a farm in Sharon Springs, which led to the unexpected journey of starting Beekman 1802.
In 2008, after losing our jobs and facing a mortgage, we turned to goat milk soap to survive, not for entrepreneurial dreams.
