Ex-NASA Admin pick blames Musk ties for pulled nomination
Briefly

Jared Isaacman, whose nomination for NASA Administrator was withdrawn unexpectedly, attributed this decision to his connections with Elon Musk and concurrent political events. He described the withdrawal as disheartening, especially as news spread faster than anticipated. Isaacman expressed concern over NASA's budget cuts returning to pre-Apollo levels and discussed potential impacts on key programs, including the SLS and the Mars Sample Return project. Despite supporting budget reductions, he noted he wouldn’t agree with the drastic cuts proposed, emphasizing the importance of maintaining NASA's science and exploration initiatives.
"It was a real bummer," Isaacman told the All-In podcast. "I got a call on Friday last week that the president had decided to go in a different direction."
"I don't like to play dumb ... I don't think that the timing was much of a coincidence ... There were other things going on on the same day."
"Some people had some axes to grind," said Isaacman, "and I was a good visible target."
I fully support the President with the goal of shrinking the budget ... but it is true that doesn't mean that I would have landed at $19 billion.
