Wilt Chamberlain rookie card sells for record $1.7 million at auction after sitting in closet
Briefly

The sale of a 1961-62 Fleer Wilt Chamberlain rookie card for $1.7 million marks a historic moment as the highest price ever for a vintage basketball card.
The card, found in a grocery store closet in Minnesota after over 60 years, achieved a perfect '10' grade from SGC, the only one for this set.
Caleb Baker, the consignor, expressed his disbelief, stating, 'As soon as I saw the card in person, I knew this would be life-changing.'
Previously, the record was held by a 1980-81 Topps Larry Bird/Magic Johnson rookie card sold for $861,000 in August 2021 through Goldin Auctions.
