The City Council of Milpitas is considering renaming the Milpitas Library, with a recommendation to honor former mayor Jose Esteves, who served multiple terms.
Former mayor Jose Esteves expressed openness and honor at the possibility of his name being associated with the Milpitas Library, highlighting his contributions to the city's development.
Renee Lorentzen, director of recreation and community services, noted that the naming list will undergo deliberation by a city subcommittee prior to the council’s final decision.
The council has the option to bypass the typical naming process by dissolving the subcommittee and directly approving the name, should they find the recommendations unsatisfactory.
