Long Island City is in the midst of significant transformation, with extensive new residential developments including high-rise luxury condos and rentals. To further address the ongoing housing shortage, the Adams administration has proposed a new rezoning plan, potentially adding over 14,000 additional homes to the area, with 4,000 designated as income-restricted. This strategic effort is part of a broader initiative to modernize outdated zoning regulations and stimulate both housing and economic growth in the neighborhood.
This plan updates zoning in parts of the neighborhood still limited by outdated and restrictive rules, allowing more housing and jobs while creating a more accessible community.
A few decades ago, you could see right over the neighborhood sitting on the bank of the East River and across to the iconic Manhattan skyline. Today, a new skyline has been constructed in front of the old one.
