Long-abandoned Art Deco cinema in NYC loses another lease on life
Briefly

A seemingly finalized plan to rehabilitate the long-shuttered Metro Theater in the Upper West Side has once again fallen through, adding to the history of unsuccessful endeavors to revive the 84-year-old Art Deco property.
"Disappointing update: This plan has fallen through, due to the bankruptcy of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema chain and the recent death of the long-time owner of the Metro," said Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine.
Ryan Fons from Alamo Drafthouse attributed the failure of Metro Theater's rehabilitation to Albert Bialek's estate, mentioning that an indie theater project involving Alamo as a minority investor was intended for the space.
