Residents of Dyker Heights are urging the demolition of a building that has experienced its sixth fire in two years, raising safety concerns. After the latest incident, a woman believed to be a squatter died, prompting neighbors to lament the decline of their once peaceful community. Following the fire, a vacate order was issued, and the FDNY has planned an inspection of the building. A construction fence has been erected, and plans are underway to board it up, indicating the community's urgent call for its removal.
Hopefully it would be demolished. I would feel much more safe with that. I've been here for more than 20 years. I was shocked. The neighborhood was very quiet. Beautiful neighborhood. Now it's beginning to be destroyed because of that property.
Since the fire, a vacate order has been issued and the FDNY has ordered an inspection of the building.
