"While big cities may be an essential part of our country's economic and social life, small towns are becoming an increasingly popular option for settling down," according to Travel + Leisure's real estate experts.
Carmel-by-the-Sea – a town of about 3,000 residents – is described as 'a village in a forest overlooking a white sand beach,' appealing for its scenic beauty.
However, the travel site said, real estate in the Monterey County city comes at 'a steep price'. The average sales price for a home for June 2024 was $2.53 million.
