BP OKs Empire Boulevard Rezoning, While Locals Push Back
Briefly

Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso has expressed support for a controversial rezoning proposal on Empire Boulevard. The plan involves building a 13-story mixed-use development featuring 261 residential units on a former industrial site. While approving the development, Reyoso emphasized the importance of addressing potential shadow impacts on nearby outdoor play areas and the P.S. 375 basketball courts. The project includes provisions for lower-income housing under the city's Mandatory Inclusionary Housing program and will combine commercial spaces on its lower floors.
The proposed rezoning would see developers Bridges Development Group build a 13-story, mixed-use development with 261 residential units rise on the corner lot at Empire Boulevard and McKeever and Sullivan places.
Reynoso released his letter of approval with conditions before a recent City Planning Commission hearing where four members of the public spoke against the development.
