The Department of Transportation announced that New York City businesses can now apply for incentives to take delivery shipments during off-peak hours, aiming to reduce traffic congestion.
DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez emphasized that reducing the number of delivery trucks during peak hours is essential for a greener and healthier New York City.
Since 2010, DOT has managed an off-hours delivery program with 27 participants covering over 1,000 locations, which has proven vital in tackling urban congestion.
The new incentive program, funded by a $6 million budget allocation, aims to counterbalance anticipated congestion fees for trucks entering Manhattan during busy hours.
