With Andrew Cuomo, Democrats are doing a disastrous imitation of Trump | Moira Donegan
Briefly

As the far right strengthens and the 2024 election is mischaracterized as a decisive victory for Trump, the Democratic establishment seems to be mimicking Republican strategies. Historically, Democrats have tried to win votes by adopting Republican policies, a trend that has intensified following recent electoral losses. This shift manifests in their rhetoric on various policy areas, revealing a departure from their previous commitment to social justice, instead embracing more combative and confrontational styles reminiscent of Trump, as demonstrated by the support for figures like Andrew Cuomo.
Having ceded much cultural and policy ground to Trump, the party now seems to be looking to elevate not just its most conservative members, but also its most vulgar, cruel and combative ones.
If you can't beat him, imitate him. Democrats are shifting their rhetoric further rightward, aiming less to persuade than to imitate Republican policy positions.
