Why Israel's having some of its biggest protests since the war in Gaza began
Briefly

In recent days, Israelis have organized significant protests, marking some of the largest demonstrations since the conflict in Gaza escalated in 2023. Demonstrators are demanding negotiations for the release of hostages held by Hamas and are expressing their dissatisfaction with government attempts to weaken the judiciary. With over 100,000 protesting across major cities, there is a strong sentiment against the return to war, perceived by many as a betrayal by Prime Minister Netanyahu. The conflict has also raised concerns about the future of Israeli democracy as citizens clash with political decisions they view as harmful.
The Israeli public is exhausted. It's in trauma. The Israeli government is adamant about returning to war, and this is not disconnected from the politics of it.
Polls show a majority of Israelis are against the end of the ceasefire and want negotiations to continue.
Many feel this return to war is a betrayal and that Netanyahu and his government are forsaking the remaining hostages, leaving them to die in Gaza.
