Trump fires MTA from long-awaited Penn Station revamp, puts feds in charge: 'Blank checks are over'
Briefly

In a recent announcement, President Trump declared a federal takeover of the Penn Station redesign, sidelining the MTA. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy emphasized a 'public-private partnership' for the makeover, aimed at increasing efficiency and accountability. While Governor Kathy Hochul has been involved in discussions with Trump, Duffy pointed to the MTA's historical waste as a reason for the shift in leadership. Despite initial tensions, Hochul celebrated the decision as a victory for New York, forecasting significant taxpayer savings and a $7 billion overhaul of the station.
The MTA's history of inefficiency, waste, and mismanagement also meant that a new approach is needed.
This is a major victory for New Yorkers, and the use of federal funds will save New York taxpayers $1.3 billion.
Clearly that effort has been successful, and I want to thank the President and Secretary Duffy for taking on the sole responsibility to deliver the beautiful new $7 billion station.
