At about 10:32 a.m. on August 18, a man left a suspicious package outside the NYPD command center on 43rd Street and 7th Avenue.

The object sparked concern, prompting authorities to evacuate the building and surrounding blocks before the NYPD Bomb Squad deemed it non-threatening.

Police sources reported the object appeared to be rolled-up pieces of paper and ripped-up magazine, believed to be deliberately placed to create panic.

The NYPD's Evidence Collection Team photographed the paper before bagging it, while police are searching for the suspect last seen in distinctive clothing.
