On April 23, 2025, Thomas Taffe was officially promoted to Chief of the MTA Police Department during a ceremony at Grand Central Terminal. With over 30 years of law enforcement experience, including his recent role as Chief of Operations for the MTAPD, Taffe plans to guide the department's 1,400 officers. MTA Chair Janno Lieber emphasized Taffe's extensive background in criminal justice as vital for overseeing the wide-reaching transit system of New York. The event included promotions for 25 other department members, reinforcing a commitment to public safety.
