Small business advocates have raised concerns about the impending upzoning on San Francisco's West Side, warning that it could jeopardize local shops and restaurants. The plans, presented by Small Business Forward and the Race and Equity in All Planning Coalition, suggest that the demolition of buildings for new residential developments may displace hundreds of businesses, especially as 1,052 small businesses are at risk. With no commercial rent control to protect them, advocates fear the unique character of neighborhoods will fade, replaced by larger chains that can afford increased rents.
