The seat, recently held by Simcha Felder, will be contested in a special election on May 20, 2025. Sutton emphasized the importance of community representation, citing his extensive background in nonprofit work and his commitment to serving Brooklyn's diverse neighborhoods. Party Chair Bichotte Hermelyn lauded Sutton's dedication and history of uplifting the community.
"Given our community's growth and challenges, we need a representative who is deeply rooted in our community and understands its dynamics," Sutton said, according to a press release.
"We need someone who is going to fight for the right resources and take on the tough battles for our communities' needs," said Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair Bichotte Hermelyn.
