The special election for San Jose's District 3 will undergo a recount as Anthony Tordillos holds a narrow five-vote lead over Matthew Quevedo. The race for second place has seen constant fluctuations between the two candidates over the past week. With Gabby Chavez-Lopez leading the field but not securing over 50% of the vote, she remains in contention for the June runoff. The recount reflects the importance of each vote, as highlighted by Quevedo's remarks. Interim representative Carl Salas will remain in office until a final winner is declared, as voters await the outcome.
We appreciate the diligent work from everyone working to ensure a fast and accurate count, Quevedo said Friday. We appreciate everyone who voted and made their voice heard in this election, whether it was for our campaign for common sense or not.
Although the race will drag on until the summer, Carl Salas, appointed to the District 3 seat in late January, will continue to serve in an interim capacity until a winner is declared.
