Frank Morano, a candidate for City Council on Staten Island and a radio show host, was targeted by vandals who defaced his campaign sign with hate speech linking him to Nazism. This act of vandalism occurred after he and other Republicans showed support for law enforcement. Morano described the labeling as deeply insulting and hurtful, emphasizing that the GOP is actively resisting fascism. This incident coincides with other acts of vandalism against the Republican party, alluding to a troubling pattern of political animosity in New York.
Morano mentioned, "Any sort of vandalism, any sort of graffiti, is just horrible, but when it's this kind of hate speech, it goes beyond the pale."
He expressed that being labeled a Nazi is "insulting" and "hurtful," asserting that the GOP "is leading the way in terms of fighting against Nazism and fascism."
Staten Island Republican Michael Tannousis stated, "We will not accept this on Staten Island."
