On June 28, St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Dyker Heights celebrated its 125th anniversary by co-naming a street "St. Philip's Square" at the intersection of 11th Avenue and 80th Street. The ceremony featured various activities, including speeches, prayers, and musical performances. Dyker Heights Civic Association President Joe Loccisano noted the church's significant role in the community, emphasizing its warmth and generosity. Councilmember Alexa Avilés expressed the importance of honoring the church's history, seeing it as a beacon of love and compassion in the neighborhood, which has been a part of the community since 1899.
"The Dyker Height Civic Association has held meetings right here at St. Philip's Parish home. We've come to see the space not just as a meeting place, but as a part of our home."
