Polish model lied about Weinstein sex assault as part of cash-grab scheme to escape abusive ex: Harvey's lawyer
Briefly

In the retrial of Harvey Weinstein, his lawyer, Michael Cibella, asserted that accuser Kaja Sokola fabricated allegations of sexual assault to fund her escape from an abusive relationship. Cibella emphasized that Sokola received substantial compensation related to Weinstein due to her claims, which she used to leave her marriage. Prosecutor Shannon Lucey refuted these allegations, arguing that they lacked substantial grounding. Furthermore, Judge Curtis Farber instructed the jury to ignore certain inquiries regarding Sokola's personal life, focusing instead on the nature of her allegations about Weinstein's actions from when she was a minor.
"She's living in an abusive relationship for four years, and once she gets the money from the Weinstein bankruptcy case, she leaves," Cibella said, noting Sokola moved to the US just two months after receiving the nearly $500,000 payout.
"The whole argument is pulling at straws," Lucey said.
Michael Cibella, a lawyer for the fallen Miramax founder, zeroed in on accuser Kaja Sokola, 39, in Manhattan Supreme Court over her alleged money-hungry scam.
Sokola testified over the past three days about how Weinstein allegedly assaulted her three times - the first time when she was a model and aspiring actress at 16 in 2002.
