Vincent Vallelong, President of the SBA, stated, "They feel as if they've been abandoned," referring to over 1,200 sergeants earning less than 18,000 police officers despite increased responsibilities.
Vallelong pointed out that the existing contract "has splintered the robust pay structure in the NYPD and threatens the future of leaders within law enforcement, creating resentment among the ranks."
