The New York City Department of Transportation is initiating a community-led project to redesign the Conduit corridor, a three-mile stretch notorious for dangerous driving and pedestrian accidents. Over the last five years, this area has reported more than 40 serious injuries and five fatalities. The redesign aims to integrate essential pedestrian infrastructure, address speed-related issues, and enhance overall safety. Community workshops and feedback sessions will involve local residents in providing input for these crucial improvements, with an overarching goal to foster safer, more connected neighborhoods between Brooklyn and Queens.
For years, the Conduit has been one of the most dangerous corridors in our city - falling significantly short of meeting the safety needs of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike.
Brooklyn and Queens Residents deserve a Conduit Boulevard that improves daily life, not a roadway that puts pedestrians and drivers at risk and physically divides entire neighborhoods.
