NY lawmakers pass budget extender as negotiations for key Hochul proposals remain at a 'standstill'
Briefly

Albany lawmakers have approved a stopgap funding measure as negotiations surrounding Governor Hochul's proposed $252 billion budget remain stalled. The talks have hit a deadlock due to Hochul's insistence on key policies aimed at decreasing crime and disorder in New York City, specifically reforms on criminal evidence-sharing laws and expanding involuntary commitments for the mentally ill. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Hochul is projected to exceed the state's April 1 budget deadline. Criticism has emerged from legislators frustrated with negotiations stalling over policy demands, drawing ire from across party lines.
Personally, that's quite frustrating to me. I think we can do both things at once, but apparently that is not in the cards so I do not know the answer of when we will actually get to the budget bills.
Hochul can't compromise on her discovery law changes and her involuntary commitment proposal, signaling that she's willing to hold up talks as long as it takes to deliver.
