New York state and city officials urge caution if traveling during solar eclipse
Briefly

The greater New York City area will have nearly 90% coverage of the sun during the partial solar eclipse, creating sudden lack of light around 3 p.m. for an hour.
"I urge all New Yorkers to enjoy this natural wonder - but do so, safely," said Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez, advising to leave early, bring supplies, and avoid parking on road shoulders.
Construction and lane closures will be suspended, and New Yorkers are cautioned to use certified viewing glasses to protect their eyes from direct sun exposure during the eclipse.
