New Deal Reached to End Wildcat Strikes by N.Y. Prison Guards
Briefly

New York State correctional officers, who engaged in wildcat strikes due to staffing shortages and unsafe working conditions, have reached a new agreement to return to work. State officials and the correctional officers' union negotiated terms after the Department of Corrections threatened disciplinary action. The agreement includes a temporary pause on certain provisions of the HALT Act limiting solitary confinement. While the union must enforce the return-to-work provision, it's yet unclear how they will do so without authorizing the strikes. This follows a previous, largely ignored agreement aimed at resolving the strife.
Under the new agreement, negotiated between state officials and the correctional officers' union, thousands of New York State correctional officers will return to work after wildcat strikes.
The crux of the issue arose from staffing shortages, forced overtime, and perilous conditions that drove officers to engage in these illegal strikes, necessitating this new agreement.
