Long Island officials are pushing for reform of cashless bail laws to ensure serious animal abusers are detained until trial. Nassau County DA Anne Donnelly emphasized the correlation between animal abuse and future violence towards humans. She expressed concern over the current laws that prevent judges from keeping dangerous offenders locked up. Additionally, State Sen. Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick has introduced legislation to strengthen provisions against aggravated animal abuse, showing a concerted effort among local authorities to combat animal cruelty effectively and protect vulnerable animals.
Data show, Donnelly said, that the most hardened killers often start their descent into crime by first abusing and murdering animals.
I am delighted that the District Attorney has stepped up and asked me to work with her to advance legislation which would repeal provisions of the 'cashless bail' law.
If people think that someone who would do that to an innocent, voiceless animal - wouldn't turn around and do something similar to people - they don't know anything about the minds of criminals.
Do not abuse animals. We will go after you, and we will prosecute you, and we will protect our animals.
