Mayor Adams marks 5-year anniversary of first COVID-19 death in NYC with tribute at Elmhurst Hospital - QNS
Briefly

On the fifth anniversary of the first confirmed COVID-19 death in New York City, Mayor Eric Adams visited NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst to honor the memory of healthcare workers and the over 46,000 New Yorkers who died due to the pandemic. To commemorate COVID-19 Remembrance Day, several municipal buildings will light up in amber. Adams praised the 'healthcare heroes' who confronted the pandemic's challenges and pledged that every March 14 will be a day of remembrance for those lost and the collective efforts undertaken during the crisis.
"More than 46,000 New Yorkers lost their lives to COVID-19 in the past five years - first responders, health care workers, teachers, essential workers, and more," Adams said.
"NYC Health + Hospitals/ Elmhurst became the epicenter of the pandemic in New York City, which emerged as the global epicenter of COVID-19," said Adams.
