"There should be no second-class first responders in this city, but what we've got now is a caste system in our 911-dispatched uniform services," said Brannan.
"It's a disgrace. These aren't ambulance drivers. They are street doctors," Brannan emphasized, highlighting the critical role of EMTs and paramedics.
Brannan indicated that the starting salaries for EMTs range from $39,386 to $47,016 while firefighters start at $54,122, illustrating the pay disparity.
Despite negotiations reaching a stalemate, Brannan noted that the city has sufficient budgeted funds in 'labor reserves' to fulfill Adams' promise of pay parity.
