Major safety measures are coming to NYC subways in 2025
Briefly

Every subway train in NYC will have a uniformed police officer on board between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily. Approximately 750 NYPD officers will be stationed across NYC for this initiative, with an additional 300 in the train cars themselves. The extra enforcement will prioritize 30 subway stations and transit hubs that account for 50% of crime in the transit system. Hochul emphasized that this aims to enhance safety and address concerns over crime.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated it is critical for the state to address surging recidivism that has created a revolving door in the criminal justice system. She acknowledged Hochul's new proposals to change discovery laws as a way to effectively keep repeat offenders locked up, highlighting the need for a comprehensive approach to promoting public safety in the transit system.
