Long Island road named for Israeli-American Oct. 7 victim Omer Neutra: 'So appropriate'
Briefly

Nassau County legislators unanimously voted to rename a section of Manetto Hill Road to 'Captain Omer Neutra Way' in honor of Omer Neutra, a young platoon commander in the Israel Defense Force who was tragically killed during the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023. His parents expressed gratitude for this recognition, emphasizing the significance of the location near the Mid-Island Jewish Community Center, where the local Jewish community gathers to advocate for hostages. Neutra’s mother shared her profound sorrow and the painful uncertainty endured before the confirmation of her son's death.
A section of road in the Long Island town where slain Israeli American hostage Omer Neutra grew up is being renamed after him.
Neutra, 21, was serving as a platoon commander in the Israel Defense Force that day and believed to have been taken hostage, till it was revealed in December that he'd actually been killed Oct. 7.
We are appreciative of the Legislators for their moral clarity and honoring Omer in a way that will allow our neighbors to think of him every time they drive by the Mid-Island JCC.
My beautiful son, my strong 6-foot-2 big, smiley boy. ...I pled for a sign of life. I didn't get any.
