Fort Greene Park Reno Legal Fight Continues
Briefly

Fort Greene Park's planned renovation under the Parks Without Borders initiative is under fire due to lawsuits from local residents who oppose the tree removals. The Friends of Fort Greene Park argue that cutting down 78 trees could lead to environmental harm and question the validity of the city’s assessments. Despite multiple court cases since 2018, city officials and the Fort Greene Park Conservancy assert that the lawsuits unnecessarily hinder necessary improvements. The $24 million project aims to enhance accessibility and infrastructure within the park.
Verice Weatherspoon, a member of FFGP, said she has lived across the street from the park for decades. "The trees being cut down affects the environment, you get more healthy, clean air with more trees and more greenery," she said. "I don't understand why the city wants to destroy that and take down trees."
