Mayor Eric Adams is implementing new rules to reduce excessive overtime spending in the NYPD, FDNY, and other departments following a scandal involving allegations of sexual misconduct.
In a memo, Adams emphasized that these departments account for a disproportionate share of overtime spending, insisting management must use OT responsibly and per city guidelines.
Three City Hall offices, alongside the Office of Management and Budget, have been tasked to collaborate with the designated departments to create plans for significant overtime cost reductions.
The NYPD has been under scrutiny after accusations of former Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey abusing his position for personal gain, leading to his resignation amid an internal investigation.
