Reverend Al Sharpton expressed grave concerns over the Justice Department's decision to drop corruption charges against Mayor Eric Adams. He emphasized that this action, which he interpreted as an attempt to leverage Adams for Trump’s immigration policies, has prompted him and other Black leaders to reassess their support for the mayor's re-election. Sharpton is convening discussions among key Black officials to deliberate on their future backing, noting that all options remain on the table, including possible inquiries with Governor Kathy Hochul about Adams' position.
The memo from the DOJ raises serious concerns, and several Black officials, including myself, are re-evaluating our support for Mayor Adams moving forward.
This situation feels as if Trump is holding the mayor hostage, complicating our community's trust and reconsideration of our political alliances.
