The city has reached a $1 million settlement with Parkchester Preservation Management, marking the largest settlement of its kind in the city's history, due to allegations of discrimination against renters using subsidy vouchers.
According to accusations, Parkchester management imposed minimum income requirements for potential renters without considering voucher income, severely limiting opportunities for voucher holders to qualify for housing.
As part of the settlement, Parkchester management will pay damages, set aside at least 850 units for renters with vouchers, and provide training to its staff on fair housing law.
The agreement also mandates that Parkchester's rental website clearly states that applicants using subsidies will not face credit evaluations or minimum income requirements, aiming to enhance accessibility for low-income families.
