In the lead-up to the June Democratic primary, the D.R.E.A.M. initiative has surfaced, where progressive groups advocate for voters to not rank Eric Adams or Andrew Cuomo on their ballots. This movement originated from United Auto Workers Region 9A as a response to perceived failures by the two candidates, emphasizing support for more progressive alternatives. The union's director, Brandon Mancilla, criticized both men for not prioritizing workers' needs, reinforcing the call for a unified voting stance against them to change the city's leadership dynamics.
At this point, the UAW has gotten President Biden to show up to the picket line right during last year's strike, and, in 2019, Cuomo refused to do that in a state that is very proud of its union density and being a pro-union state.
Mayor Adams, over the last three to four years as mayor of the city, we've seen a lot of cuts, a lot of misplaced priorities, taking a knee to whatever Donald Trump wants, essentially just not running the city.
