NYC has padlocked 75 illegal smoke shops across five boroughs, resulting in 3,800 citations and violations and nearly $6 million in penalties in the week since a coordinated crackdown rolled out, Mayor Eric Adams boasted.
Adams said the shops 'have become a magnet for violence and a magnet for targeting our children with bad practices.'
Thanks to new measures in the state budget, NYC Sheriff Anthony Miranda 'hit the ground on padlocking the illegal cannabis shops,' Adams said, adding, 'They're just getting started.'
