Nuvia Martinez Ventura, a 30-year-old mother of five from Brentwood, Long Island, was detained by immigration officials during a scheduled check-in. Originally from El Salvador, she arrived in the U.S. undocumented in 2016. Despite her clean record and ongoing legal battles for asylum, Martinez Ventura's requests have been denied twice. She has since been relocated to Texas, raising concerns about her potential deportation and the emotional impact on her children, who face various health challenges. Efforts are underway to secure her release with the involvement of local advocacy and political figures.
"They always ask for her. It's very hard to explain the situation. We have no words to tell them what happened to her."
"She's been checking in with ICE. She has not missed her appointments. There was no reason to detain her at this point in time," says Amoachi.
