UN says 100 children killed or injured in Gaza every day since war resumed
Briefly

On Palestine Children's Day, Palestinian and UN officials highlighted the devastating impact of renewed Israeli assaults on Gaza, reporting at least 100 children are injured or killed daily. Philippe Lazzarini from UNRWA condemned the violence, stating children are undeserving victims in this conflict. UNICEF reported at least 322 child deaths since March 18, and lamented the abrupt shift from a temporary ceasefire that had provided crucial relief to children in Gaza. Additionally, the Palestinian Ministry of Education emphasized that over 17,000 children have died since October 2023, reflecting the tragedy and loss experienced by the community.
Philippe Lazzarini, chief of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, stated, "Nothing justifies the killing of children," emphasizing the profound tragedy and moral failure of the ongoing violence.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell remarked, "The ceasefire had provided a desperately needed lifeline for Gaza's children and hope for a path to recovery," highlighting the impact of renewed violence on young lives.
The Palestinian Ministry of Education noted, "children are among the most targeted victims of Israeli aggression, with more than 17,000 of them killed in Gaza since October 2023," underlining the scale of the crisis.
Lazzarini also expressed, "Israel was turning the besieged territory into a no land for children," condemning the war's toll on innocent lives that are being cut short.
