Federal immigration agents recently conducted raids at several car wash locations in Los Angeles and Orange counties, detaining at least 26 individuals, primarily workers. This has caused distress among families, particularly highlighted by Noemi Ciau's experience, as she lost her husband Jesus Cruz during the raid. Advocacy group CLEAN is working to identify detained workers amidst ongoing fear and uncertainty in the community, emphasizing the need for support and awareness about the implications of these actions for affected families.
"He was my backbone," she said. "Who's going to pick up my kids? Who's going to take them to music class?" Her husband's absence affects their family dynamics.
"The agents are armed. They are grabbing people and putting them in vehicles, which is why we are calling them 'kidnappings' because they are not identifying themselves." This highlights the fear and confusion among families.
