Son who nearly beat father to death on Staten Island resolves case

Albert Duka, a 34-year-old man from Mariners Harbor, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to felony assault against his father. The attack, which occurred on September 25, involved Duka punching his father multiple times and causing severe injuries. After admitting to the crime, which initially included charges of attempted murder, Duka is also subject to post-release supervision and an order of protection for the victim. His father sustained serious injuries, including a fractured skull.

Following his arrest, Duka allegedly stated to police in sum and substance: "He's my dad. I beat him up because ... he shouldn't have been there."
