Rosedale Heights high school launches new student paper | CBC News
Briefly

Students at Toronto's Rosedale Heights School of the Arts have created a student-led newspaper, The Spectacle, under editor-in-chief Dylan Follett. The initiative stems from a desire to address vital issues and promote discussions that schools should facilitate, especially in light of recent political tensions. Inspired by a memo from Education Minister Jill Dunlop discouraging political discourse, Follett believes it's crucial for students to engage in meaningful dialogue. The editorial team of 17, along with enthusiastic participation from over 100 students, aims to confront sensitive topics within their second volume, striving for a platform that transcends passive reporting.
I just hated that. I think schools need to be a place where we can have conversations that matter, difficult conversations.
I thought he would probably just go away. But Follett followed up with emails about the project over the summer.
At the paper's first meeting, there were more than 100 students in the room.
They were called The Spectator. I was just thinking about that name and it just felt so passive.
