Parents and grandparents of kids in a third-grade class at PS 8 in Staten Island have raised alarms over safety concerns regarding a particular student. They distributed flyers outside the school urging the Department of Education to intervene. Parents express anxiety regarding the situation, with one mother highlighting the unsafe environment. Parents seeking clarity on the matter confronted those distributing flyers, while school representatives asserted that student safety is a priority and measures are in place to support all students. Authorities are withholding specific details related to the situation for confidentiality.
"I feel it's a very unsafe environment and I think that something needs to be done," said Nicole, the mother of a student at the school who requested her last name be withheld from publication.
"My grandchild is being deprived of safety, of the education he's entitled to, that the school is required to provide him with and there's nothing being done about it," John, the grandfather of a student at the school, said.
"The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority," said Department of Education spokeswoman Jenna Lyle. "Make no mistake, this school is safe and is taking the appropriate steps to support every student."
