Long Island schools under 'lockout' after AR-15 threat from bullied teen - schools say it's a hoax
Briefly

A false threat involving a bullied student and an AR-15 led to a lockdown at Long Beach High School. Superintendent Jennifer Gallagher confirmed that a 911 call from California reported the threat using the name of an alumnus, but investigations revealed that the caller was not affiliated with the school. Despite the initial panic, police ensured the school’s safety, clearing it of any threats. Gallagher emphasized the importance of safety procedures during such incidents while normal activities continued inside the school, largely unnoticed by the students.
The police were able to determine this morning that the caller was not the alumnus of the high school, who has a fairly common name.
As a parent, I absolutely understand that instinct, but it is really critical in these situations that we follow safety procedures as recommended by our partners in law enforcement.
The police were then able to assure the security of the high school, going room to room with the high school administration to determine that everyone inside the high school was safe.
The call sent Long Beach and Nassau County cops swarming to the high school on Thursday morning, with district officials calling for a lockdown of the building.
