A daycare worker named Megan Marchena was arrested for allegedly injuring an 18-month old girl by forcefully pushing her face onto a cot, causing severe injuries that required medical attention. Witness accounts describe blood gushing from the child's mouth following the incident. Marchena has been charged with assault and child endangerment, and a Child Protective Services investigation is ongoing. In response to the incident, the daycare center placed Marchena and the director on administrative leave and issued a letter to parents emphasizing their commitment to care standards.
"The last time she slammed her down, the little girl hit her mouth on the cot. After [the child] hit her mouth, she started crying," said Griffin, who rushed over to help the toddler before she was sent to Good Samaritan Hospital.
"There was blood gushing all down her chin out of her mouth," Griffin said.
Tutor Time, which put both Marchena and its director on administrative leave, sent parents a letter stating, 'We are working with authorities. All of our staff members are expected to uphold our high standards of care, and we do not tolerate any deviation from these standards.'
Marchena was arrested on assault and child endangerment charges Feb. 28, the same day Child Protective Services launched an investigation.
