"One of my kids, who is dyslexic and he lets me talk about it, went up there and talked about a moment that was extremely important to him and I had no idea what he was going to say. He was in the 4th grade and not writing well and he wrote this sentence that says, 'I can do this.' And it was his first sentence. And that's really late to be writing your first sentence as any parent with a kid with dyslexia knows."
"I blew (the paper) up and I put it in our kitchen and it says, 'I can do this.' Anyway, he talked about how special that moment was for him. That was literally the most meaningful and impactful moment at my wedding, besides getting married to Jeff."
Lauren Sánchez Bezos appeared on TODAY to discuss her children's book and her experience with dyslexia. During the interview, she shared an emotional moment from her wedding to Jeff Bezos in Venice, Italy. One of her sons, who is dyslexic, gave a speech recalling a pivotal childhood moment when he wrote his first sentence in fourth grade: "I can do this." Sánchez Bezos had enlarged the paper and displayed it in their kitchen as encouragement. Her son's tribute during the wedding speech deeply moved her, describing it as the second most meaningful moment of her wedding day after marrying Bezos. The mother of three emphasized how powerful it was to hear her children speak about what matters most to them.
